The shadow in the mirror

19 octubre, 2024

The old mansion of the Mendoza family had remained empty for years. Its worn walls and dust-covered windows told stories of better times, when laughter echoed through its halls. Now, however, only echoes of loneliness and misery could be heard. Clara, a young artist, decided to move in, seeking inspiration for her next project. She was unaware that the place held dark secrets that would change her life forever.

On the first night, while unpacking her things, Clara came across a large antique mirror in the attic. Its golden frame was worn, but the reflection remained surprisingly clear. However, as the light faded, the mirror seemed to come to life. Clara felt drawn to it, as if something was calling her. Still, a chill ran down her spine, and she decided to leave it covered with a blanket.

As the days passed, Clara began to notice strange things. At night, she often heard whispers that seemed to emanate from the direction of the mirror. Sometimes, when she walked past it, she felt a presence behind her, a dark shadow that seemed to watch her intently. The feeling of being observed grew stronger, along with her anxiety.

One afternoon, she decided to confront her fear. She removed the blanket from the mirror and stared at her reflection. At first, she only saw her image, but as her breathing calmed, she noticed something behind her. A shadow slid across the glass, a figure that seemed to twist and move unnaturally. Clara turned around quickly, but there was nothing there. Confusion and fear began to take hold of her.

Over time, Clara became unable to concentrate on her work. The shadow in the mirror became more frequent, appearing at unexpected moments. Every time she looked at it, the reflection seemed to distort, showing her unsettling scenes from her life: past arguments with friends, moments of loneliness, and the decisions that had led her to that place. It was as if the mirror reflected her deepest insecurities and fears.

One day, Clara decided to seek information about the mirror. Through old books in the town library, she discovered that it had belonged to a woman named Isabella, who had mysteriously disappeared years ago. It was said that the mirror was a cursed object, a window to another reality where shadows could feed on the fears of those who looked into it.

Desperate to free herself from the shadow that haunted her, Clara decided to confront it. That night, she sat in front of the mirror and spoke aloud. “If you are here, show yourself. I am not afraid of you.” The atmosphere grew cold, and the lights began to flicker. A low, guttural laugh echoed from the mirror, and Clara felt her heart pounding.

Suddenly, the figure emerged from the glass. It was not a defined shape, but a mix of shadows that seemed to distort and change form constantly. Clara was paralyzed, caught between terror and fascination. The shadow approached her reflection, and in an instant, their eyes met. The connection was instantaneous, as if they knew all each other’s secrets.

In an unexpected twist, the shadow smiled, revealing a face that was both familiar and strange. Clara realized that the figure was a manifestation of her own anguish, a representation of all the dark moments in her life that she had tried to ignore. “You cannot run from yourself,” the shadow whispered before being absorbed back into the mirror.

Clara, trembling, stepped away from the mirror, but something had changed within her. She had faced her shadow, and although she had won that battle, she knew the war was far from over. The figure had disappeared, but its echo remained, resonating in her mind.

As the moonlight illuminated the room, Clara realized that the mirror was no longer just an antique object. It was a constant reminder of her internal struggles, a portal that showed her not only her fears but also the path to overcome them. But every time she approached it, she felt that the shadow could return. The struggle between light and darkness within her had only just begun, and each encounter with the mirror brought with it the promise of new secrets and revelations that would push her to the brink of madness.
